I apologize for the prolonged absence. I’m hoping to be writing more in the next little while, sharing with you a project I am working on as part of my Masters degree at Carleton University (more to come on that). Today, I came across a really well written article on Active History.ca. The site is dedicated to connecting “the work of historians with the wider public and the importance of the past to current events.” I recently attended a conference hosted by them, and let me tell you it was pretty inspiring.
If you’ve been following the election at all, you may remember the “Old Stock Canadians” comment made by PM Stephen Harper. It made some people pretty mad, for a variety of reasons, mainly because it carries with it some racist implications. Needless to say, Canadians responded, and with some pretty funny (but serious) stuff, like this:
