Happy Movember! The history of the Movember Movement

Happy Movember everyone! In honour of this hairy month, I thought I’d share the brief (but bushy) history of Movember.

The Movember movement was started by two friends in Australia in 2003 who inspired by one woman’s fundraising efforts for breast cancer decided to start a campaign to bring awareness to men’s health. In its first year, Movember had 30 participants, however since then the number of participants has exploded to 1,127,152 registered participants. It’s campaign in 2012 reached over 30 countries and raised a grand total $146.6 Million.  According to their numbers from last year, Canada ranked No. 1 globally for funds raised during the campaign.

I found this photo on The Cabinet Card Gallery, another WordPress site, which has a whole collection of noteworthy mustaches! Click here to see more. This photo was taken by Thompson and Son’s (formerly of 75 King Street, Toronto.)

If you’d like to get involved with Movember, check out their website.

Happy Mo-ing!
